Simply be there when needed....and no more.
There is a Biblical
illustration found in the book of Job. After Job had lost his children, all his
riches and his health, four friends came to visit him and comfort him. The
unusual part of the story is that they sat with Job for seven days a seven
nights and did not say a word. Though this may sound unusual, this was an
ancient "Near Eastern" custom.
I almost feel that this
practice should be followed today. Many times the things we say are more
hurtful than helpful. To be there as a friend, to assist in any way
possible is the best answer.
